"WW2 American fighting knife trench dagger with dual-edge blade, original leather scabbard; a scarce type. Great overall condition, considering the age.
Original and very rare WW-2 era double-edged dagger /fighting knife with cast aluminum handle and original leather scabbard. One of the “private purchase” fighting knives – this type was manufactured and sold privately to the servicemen during the war. Identical knives show up in private collections from time to time; a scarce type. This exact type is illustrated on page 194 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons (see book’s page scan attached).
This knife is only slightly used, the double-edge “spear point” blade appears to have its original edge; it is razor-sharp still. The blade is quite thin – just 1.8 mm on average; looks like top-grade tool steel; the tip is slightly nicked. No markings on the blade or on the handle. Solid aluminum one-piece handle has a rough non-reflective finish. No typical dings or nicks on the pommel – scarce this nice since a lot of these fighting knives were used to hammer-open rations’ crates and ammo boxes. The dagger is about 11-1/4″ / 28.5 cm overall; the blade is 6-5/8″ /17 cm long. Original leather scabbard is included – it is in a serviceable condition still; brown leather is soft and supple; all rivets and stitching are tight and intact; the keeper is damaged at the snap – an easy fix. The scabbard has obvious signs of field use, but it is still in better than average condition for the type. Overall, this original “private purchase” WW2 American fighting knife is in 100% serviceable condition still. With proper care it will last you another 75 years"

"Spanish Special Operations Unit, Green Berets, Close Quarter Combat & Survival Bolo Knife With Sawback & Scabbard.
During the 1970s this 'survival' bolo was issued to the Spanish Special Operations Unit the ' Cuerpo de Operaciones Especiales' their Green Berets ( see item 209 in Hughes and Jenkins 'A Primer of Military Knives Part Two'). It is 10 inches overall with a distictive 5 1/2 inch Bolo blade with a saw back. The grips are finely chequered secured by two steel screw bolts.
The pommel, tang and long curved cross guard are of one piece steel construction. The blade has the National Toledo Armaments Factory emblem etched into it ( illustrated) The cross guard has ' V379' and 'U'. It comes with its original steel mounted leather scabbard which is also in good order. The stitching is intact as is the retaining strap and stud."
"WW2 Chindit, Special Forces, Far East/ Burma Kukri Type Fighting Knife Marked 'Burma 12 (M) EB' & Scabbard.
The Chindits _ officially in 1943 designated the 77th Indian Infantry Brigade and in 1944, the 3rd Indian Infantry Division were a British "Special Force" that served in Burma and India in 1943 and 1944 during the Burma Campaign in WW2. This is an original fighting/ survival knife with Kukri type blade carried by Chindit troops in Burma. It is similar to those illustrated on page 12 of British & Commonwealth Military knives by Flook.
It has a broad 9 3/4" long curved kukri type blade which tapers to a sharp point. It measures 14" overall and has a brass cross guard and slab bone grips secured by 3 brass rivets. The cross guard is contemporarily punch marked '12 (M) EB' on one side and the reverse 'BURMA'. The scabbard is made of heavy duty leather, stitched along the seams and it has a large single belt loop. The scabbard has a small single retaining strap fitted to the body. The brass buckle of the strap is present & secure but the buckle is missing it's pin & part of the leather tongue of the strap is absent."
"This is a VERY FINE example of a very scarce variant of a World War II “Theater Knife” that spent a good part of its collectible lifetime misidentified. Ever since the publication Harold Peterson’s American Knives in 1958, the brass gripped “Knuckle Knife” of this pattern has been identified as the 1st Battalion Army Ranger’s Knife. However, the fact that a handful of these rather scarce knives have surfaced with markings indicating that their origin was in fact Australia, makes it clear that these knives could have never seen service with an Army Ranger battalion that spent its entire World War II career in North Africa, Sicily and Italy! Due to Peterson’s identification of this pattern of knife as one that was issued to the famous Army Ranger unit, these knives will no doubt continue to be referred to by that name. They are, however, in reality simply very wicked and impressive theater knives that likely saw service in the Pacific Theater, or were simply purchased as souvenirs by US servicemen who visited Australia during the war. The knives were produced in two different sizes. The more commonly encountered variant is about 14” in overall length with a blade of slightly over 9”. These massive “D-guard” bowies evoke the image of oversized Confederate bowie knives from the American Civil war, and Crocodile Dundee saying, “You call that a knife, THIS is a knife!”. The size of these knives made them heavy and cumbersome to carry, and they were probably more useful as machetes than as fighting knives. However, a smaller variant of the knife was also produced, and these knives were of the size and weight that made a real, useful fighting knife. These knives were scaled down versions of the big knife, and were about 2/3 the size of their big brothers. For whatever reason, the smaller version of the knife is much more difficult to find for sale today, although neither version of the knife is common.
This Small Variant “1st Battalion Ranger’s Knife” is in about VERY FINE condition. The knife is about 10 3/8” in overall length, with a 6 ¼” bowie style blade with a 2” false edge and an overall width of about 1 ½” at the widest portion of the blade. The brass knuckle guard and hilt is about 4” in length, and the exterior of the guard is augmented with 6 flat cog-like projections to make the “brass knuckle” portion of the guard more effective. The brass hilt appears to have been cast directly onto the blade, and some brass has flowed onto the blade during the casting process. This is a good thing, as this particular feature is only noted on authentic and correct examples of these knives. Reproductions and fakes do not show the flowing brass on the blade at the ricasso. The projections are roughly filed into shape and the rough finished file marks are clearly evident within the projections of the grip. The interior of the knuckle bow shows rough hand finishing, although the edges of the grip interior have smoothed from handling and use over the years. The grip also shows some minor casting flaws and some minor discoloration, which is the result of some imperfections in the brass. The blade is mostly bright and retains much of its original polish. There are a handful of scattered patches of minor peppering and pinpricking present on the blade. The blade also shows some minor age discoloration and light surface oxidation. The blade has been sharpened and shows some light sharpening marks along the edge. The sharpened edge and the smooth areas worn on the grip edges suggest that unlike most of the big variants of this knife, this small one saw real combat carry and use. The brass hilt has a lovely uncleaned and untouched ochre patina that is truly attractive. The correct and original leather sheath accompanies the knife as well. Like the knife, it is a scaled down version of its big brother. The sheath is in about VERY FINE condition and fits the knife perfectly. The sheath has a belt loop that would originally accommodate a belt of about 3 1/8” in width. However, a 5/8” aluminum rivet has been installed in the loop to tighten it up and adjust the belt loop to accept belts no larger than about 2”. This modification also suggests that this knife was really carried and saw service. All of the stitching is tight and the leather remains strong and pliable, with only some light scuffing on the surface. The slightly over long and dramatically tapered scabbard tip is somewhat bent and shows some wrinkles and stress marks from bending. The scabbard is marked in ink at the throat with a faint, 7-digit number that is not fully legible and may be a service serial number. The same scabbard patterns, along with the knives, are depicted in most of the regularly cited reference works on American combat and fighting knives, including those by M.H. Cole, Michael Silvey and Bill Wright.
Overall this is a choice example of a very desirable and extremely nice condition World War II “Theater Knife” that has a long history of being misidentified. The knife has terrific eye appeal and would certainly make a great addition to any World War II knife or edged weapons collection. Its not a the 1st Battalion Army Ranger’s Knife, and there probably is no such thing. However, it is still a fantastic piece of World War II edged weapon history and its appearance and condition will certainly make it a conversation-starting centerpiece of your knife collection. These small variant knives are much rarer than their larger brethren and are rarely found for sale."

These Thwapjacks are made from lead molded to a length of wire rope, over braid with veg tanned leather and dyed to colour. The head is covered then stitched.
Weighing in at around 8-9oz they are discrete. I make these with a finger loop rather than a a longer hand loop. The head is contoured with ridges offering a more precise direction of force."

"This is very old design sap, possibly even the first cross over from slungshot to sap. Obviously my take on the design with a few more modern additions like waxed nylon thread and a galvanized hook. Its filled with lead shot and has a flexible jute rope connecting the sap bag to the hook. The hook is handy for several reasons, you can put your pinky finger in it while holding and using it, aids stability and use, but also you can use it to hook onto your belt so your pocket isn't weighed down."

Just over 7" long this is quite short, but still effective. I based the size of this from American jacks from the 1930's/40's. This is lead weighted end molded to a length of wire rope, wrapped and braided in veg tanned leather. Dyed red and black. The ring at the bottom is welded to the wire rope, and I have attached a wrist strap, just like the original jacks. The wrist strap I find actually increases the effectiveness as I can grip it in a slightly different position. The wrist strap also means it can be easily tucked in a pocket or up a sleeve like the police and gangsters used to do (this is not a recommendation for use or concealment, nor do I advocate this)."

Hand stitched by me in 1mm waxed thread, made of Veg tanned leather, dyed with oil dye to colour. This is used right handed but I can make you a left handed one. Very solid construction.
I make these with a pocket clip and a finger hole, to carry more discretely than my other version the P coin sap."

"DL Police KO (Knock Out) Glove - in Black
I made this purely from looking at an old magazine sales article. The item is named as here in the article, but no pictures of the reverse, the weight, dimensions or what it was filled with were mentioned, so I had to work it all out. Never seen an original version of these, and I have combed the internet looking, so who knows how many were originally made. My version of an item from a by gone era.
I fill this with 2-3mm lead shot small enough so as not to dig into the back of the fingers. Weighs in at around 7oz or 200g in overall weight. Hand stitched by me in 1mm waxed thread, I use a combination of layers of a soft leather, again for comfort. Very solid construction. The handle at the back is rolled leather so you reduce the risk of breaking your fingers if you were to punch with it, like a kubotan. The rear handle is also adjustable, so will fit a lot of different sized hands.
This is fully functional, as are all my products."

"WW2 ERA US “PRIVATE PURCHASE” FIGHTING DAGGER TRENCH KNIFE, ORIG LEATHER SHEATH"
"WW2 American fighting knife trench dagger with dual-edge blade, original leather scabbard; a scarce type. Great overall condition, considering the age.
Original and very rare WW-2 era double-edged dagger /fighting knife with cast aluminum handle and original leather scabbard. One of the “private purchase” fighting knives – this type was manufactured and sold privately to the servicemen during the war. Identical knives show up in private collections from time to time; a scarce type. This exact type is illustrated on page 194 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons (see book’s page scan attached).
This knife is only slightly used, the double-edge “spear point” blade appears to have its original edge; it is razor-sharp still. The blade is quite thin – just 1.8 mm on average; looks like top-grade tool steel; the tip is slightly nicked. No markings on the blade or on the handle. Solid aluminum one-piece handle has a rough non-reflective finish. No typical dings or nicks on the pommel – scarce this nice since a lot of these fighting knives were used to hammer-open rations’ crates and ammo boxes. The dagger is about 11-1/4″ / 28.5 cm overall; the blade is 6-5/8″ /17 cm long. Original leather scabbard is included – it is in a serviceable condition still; brown leather is soft and supple; all rivets and stitching are tight and intact; the keeper is damaged at the snap – an easy fix. The scabbard has obvious signs of field use, but it is still in better than average condition for the type. Overall, this original “private purchase” WW2 American fighting knife is in 100% serviceable condition still. With proper care it will last you another 75 years"

"Spanish Special Operations Unit, Green Berets, Close Quarter Combat & Survival Bolo Knife With Sawback & Scabbard.
During the 1970s this 'survival' bolo was issued to the Spanish Special Operations Unit the ' Cuerpo de Operaciones Especiales' their Green Berets ( see item 209 in Hughes and Jenkins 'A Primer of Military Knives Part Two'). It is 10 inches overall with a distictive 5 1/2 inch Bolo blade with a saw back. The grips are finely chequered secured by two steel screw bolts.
The pommel, tang and long curved cross guard are of one piece steel construction. The blade has the National Toledo Armaments Factory emblem etched into it ( illustrated) The cross guard has ' V379' and 'U'. It comes with its original steel mounted leather scabbard which is also in good order. The stitching is intact as is the retaining strap and stud."
"WW2 Chindit, Special Forces, Far East/ Burma Kukri Type Fighting Knife Marked 'Burma 12 (M) EB' & Scabbard.
The Chindits _ officially in 1943 designated the 77th Indian Infantry Brigade and in 1944, the 3rd Indian Infantry Division were a British "Special Force" that served in Burma and India in 1943 and 1944 during the Burma Campaign in WW2. This is an original fighting/ survival knife with Kukri type blade carried by Chindit troops in Burma. It is similar to those illustrated on page 12 of British & Commonwealth Military knives by Flook.
It has a broad 9 3/4" long curved kukri type blade which tapers to a sharp point. It measures 14" overall and has a brass cross guard and slab bone grips secured by 3 brass rivets. The cross guard is contemporarily punch marked '12 (M) EB' on one side and the reverse 'BURMA'. The scabbard is made of heavy duty leather, stitched along the seams and it has a large single belt loop. The scabbard has a small single retaining strap fitted to the body. The brass buckle of the strap is present & secure but the buckle is missing it's pin & part of the leather tongue of the strap is absent."
"This is a VERY FINE example of a very scarce variant of a World War II “Theater Knife” that spent a good part of its collectible lifetime misidentified. Ever since the publication Harold Peterson’s American Knives in 1958, the brass gripped “Knuckle Knife” of this pattern has been identified as the 1st Battalion Army Ranger’s Knife. However, the fact that a handful of these rather scarce knives have surfaced with markings indicating that their origin was in fact Australia, makes it clear that these knives could have never seen service with an Army Ranger battalion that spent its entire World War II career in North Africa, Sicily and Italy! Due to Peterson’s identification of this pattern of knife as one that was issued to the famous Army Ranger unit, these knives will no doubt continue to be referred to by that name. They are, however, in reality simply very wicked and impressive theater knives that likely saw service in the Pacific Theater, or were simply purchased as souvenirs by US servicemen who visited Australia during the war. The knives were produced in two different sizes. The more commonly encountered variant is about 14” in overall length with a blade of slightly over 9”. These massive “D-guard” bowies evoke the image of oversized Confederate bowie knives from the American Civil war, and Crocodile Dundee saying, “You call that a knife, THIS is a knife!”. The size of these knives made them heavy and cumbersome to carry, and they were probably more useful as machetes than as fighting knives. However, a smaller variant of the knife was also produced, and these knives were of the size and weight that made a real, useful fighting knife. These knives were scaled down versions of the big knife, and were about 2/3 the size of their big brothers. For whatever reason, the smaller version of the knife is much more difficult to find for sale today, although neither version of the knife is common.
This Small Variant “1st Battalion Ranger’s Knife” is in about VERY FINE condition. The knife is about 10 3/8” in overall length, with a 6 ¼” bowie style blade with a 2” false edge and an overall width of about 1 ½” at the widest portion of the blade. The brass knuckle guard and hilt is about 4” in length, and the exterior of the guard is augmented with 6 flat cog-like projections to make the “brass knuckle” portion of the guard more effective. The brass hilt appears to have been cast directly onto the blade, and some brass has flowed onto the blade during the casting process. This is a good thing, as this particular feature is only noted on authentic and correct examples of these knives. Reproductions and fakes do not show the flowing brass on the blade at the ricasso. The projections are roughly filed into shape and the rough finished file marks are clearly evident within the projections of the grip. The interior of the knuckle bow shows rough hand finishing, although the edges of the grip interior have smoothed from handling and use over the years. The grip also shows some minor casting flaws and some minor discoloration, which is the result of some imperfections in the brass. The blade is mostly bright and retains much of its original polish. There are a handful of scattered patches of minor peppering and pinpricking present on the blade. The blade also shows some minor age discoloration and light surface oxidation. The blade has been sharpened and shows some light sharpening marks along the edge. The sharpened edge and the smooth areas worn on the grip edges suggest that unlike most of the big variants of this knife, this small one saw real combat carry and use. The brass hilt has a lovely uncleaned and untouched ochre patina that is truly attractive. The correct and original leather sheath accompanies the knife as well. Like the knife, it is a scaled down version of its big brother. The sheath is in about VERY FINE condition and fits the knife perfectly. The sheath has a belt loop that would originally accommodate a belt of about 3 1/8” in width. However, a 5/8” aluminum rivet has been installed in the loop to tighten it up and adjust the belt loop to accept belts no larger than about 2”. This modification also suggests that this knife was really carried and saw service. All of the stitching is tight and the leather remains strong and pliable, with only some light scuffing on the surface. The slightly over long and dramatically tapered scabbard tip is somewhat bent and shows some wrinkles and stress marks from bending. The scabbard is marked in ink at the throat with a faint, 7-digit number that is not fully legible and may be a service serial number. The same scabbard patterns, along with the knives, are depicted in most of the regularly cited reference works on American combat and fighting knives, including those by M.H. Cole, Michael Silvey and Bill Wright.
Overall this is a choice example of a very desirable and extremely nice condition World War II “Theater Knife” that has a long history of being misidentified. The knife has terrific eye appeal and would certainly make a great addition to any World War II knife or edged weapons collection. Its not a the 1st Battalion Army Ranger’s Knife, and there probably is no such thing. However, it is still a fantastic piece of World War II edged weapon history and its appearance and condition will certainly make it a conversation-starting centerpiece of your knife collection. These small variant knives are much rarer than their larger brethren and are rarely found for sale."

These Thwapjacks are made from lead molded to a length of wire rope, over braid with veg tanned leather and dyed to colour. The head is covered then stitched.
Weighing in at around 8-9oz they are discrete. I make these with a finger loop rather than a a longer hand loop. The head is contoured with ridges offering a more precise direction of force."
"This is very old design sap, possibly even the first cross over from slungshot to sap. Obviously my take on the design with a few more modern additions like waxed nylon thread and a galvanized hook. Its filled with lead shot and has a flexible jute rope connecting the sap bag to the hook. The hook is handy for several reasons, you can put your pinky finger in it while holding and using it, aids stability and use, but also you can use it to hook onto your belt so your pocket isn't weighed down."

Just over 7" long this is quite short, but still effective. I based the size of this from American jacks from the 1930's/40's. This is lead weighted end molded to a length of wire rope, wrapped and braided in veg tanned leather. Dyed red and black. The ring at the bottom is welded to the wire rope, and I have attached a wrist strap, just like the original jacks. The wrist strap I find actually increases the effectiveness as I can grip it in a slightly different position. The wrist strap also means it can be easily tucked in a pocket or up a sleeve like the police and gangsters used to do (this is not a recommendation for use or concealment, nor do I advocate this)."

I made this purely from looking at an old magazine sales article. The item is named as here in the article, but no pictures of the reverse, the weight, dimensions or what it was filled with were mentioned, so I had to work it all out. Never seen an original version of these, and I have combed the internet looking, so who knows how many were originally made. My version of an item from a by gone era.
I fill this with 2-3mm lead shot small enough so as not to dig into the back of the fingers. Weighs in at around 7oz or 200g in overall weight. Hand stitched by me in 1mm waxed thread, I use a combination of layers of a soft leather, again for comfort. Very solid construction. The handle at the back is rolled leather so you reduce the risk of breaking your fingers if you were to punch with it, like a kubotan. The rear handle is also adjustable, so will fit a lot of different sized hands.
This is fully functional, as are all my products."
